Memphis is a sound, a groove and a rhythm that races through your soul, making it the Home of the Blues and the Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll. On July 5, 1954, Elvis Presley recorded "That's All Right" at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee...and rock 'n' roll took off. Fifty years later, Memphis, Tennessee will mark the 50th Anniversary of Rock 'n' Roll with a yearlong celebration of rock music and the many streams of music that converged in Memphis to create a truly American sound known throughout the world.
Welcome to Memphis and to The University of Tennessee Health Science
Center, the city's only downtown university, which is located at the very
heart of the Memphis medical center. These are exciting times on the
campus of the Health Science Center, perhaps the most exciting since our
establishment in Memphis in 1911. Formed by the consolidation of five
medical schools and schools of dentistry and pharmacy, our current
enrollment is approximately 2,000 students, who study in various
disciplines and sub-disciplines of allied health sciences, health science
engineering, dentistry, graduate health sciences, medicine, nursing and
pharmacy. UT Memphis is the largest academic health science center in the southeastern United States and is affiliated in education and research with numerous health care institutions in Memphis and the surrounding area. As one of the nation's leading academic health care centers, it offers outstanding academic and clinical programs, exceptional faculty, and state-of-the-art research facilities. UT Memphis also offers the kind of clinical environment that stimulates caring and compassion. The Center's 55-acre urban campus includes a top children's research hospital, a Level I trauma center, a major Veterans Affairs facility, and a half dozen outstanding private hospitals and specialty clinics. Each year The Health Science Center enrolls some 2000 students in the six colleges. Many of these students go on to become truly outstanding health care professionals.
