Enabling and Disabling Conduits
What is a conduit?
A conduit may simply be thought of as a passageway or means of communication
between your PDA and computer. For example, in order to synchronize all the data
on your PDA with your computer, it requires a conduit (more accurately, multiple
conduits). Another example would be a drug database program that automatically
updates itself by connecting online and then adds the updated information
automatically to your PDA database.
How do I find out what conduits I have?
| Right click on
the hotsync icon
located in the taskbar on the lower right hand part of your computer screen. You should now see this menu. Left click on "Custom..." |
|
| You should now see this menu. These are the conduits that you have available with your PDA. |

Why would I want to change my default conduit
settings?
There may be some times when you don't want to run through all the conduits on a
hot-sync since you want to shorten the hot-sync time. For example, if you have a
56K modem, it may take awhile to update your drug database on a daily basis.
However, you still want to back up everything else. By changing your default
settings you can back up your data daily and then do the internet-based database
updates perhaps on a weekly basis. Another example would be that you just want
to install a new program to try it out and not run through all the conduits for
lengthy hot-sync. You can disable everything except the install conduits.
How to change your default conduit settings to
be sure to save your memos, appointments, etc.
If you look at the above screenshot, you can see that the date book and memo pad
conduits are set to "Do Nothing." They will not be saved on your
computer unless we synchronize the files.
| Double left-click on
"Date Book" and you should now see this screen. It will allow
you to change the conduit to the desired hot-sync action. We will select
the radio button "Synchronize the files" and also check/select
the "Set as default" checkbox. Click on "OK" and the
conduit should be changed!
