Overview:
Baptist Memorial Health Care, an integrated system of hospitals and other patient-care settings offers an exciting and evolving environment for progressive post-graduate pharmacy training.

From a core of four hospital campuses (Memphis, Women's, Heart Institute and DeSoto), BMHCC provides comprehensive inpatient services (with an average census of over 800 patients) and serves as a tertiary referral center from the surrounding three-state area.  In addition to general medicine, surgery, pediatrics/neonatology, and obstetrical services, every specialty of medicine is represented.  There is particular focus placed on intensive care, cardiology, cardiovascular & neurosurgery, and oncology.  There is an affiliation with the medical/surgical training programs of the University of Tennessee-Memphis.

The Department of Pharmacy services has integrated technology for medication distribution to allow the pharmacists a more patient-focused practice.  In addition to the Pharmacy Practice Residency program, the department provides institutional and clinical training for pharmacy students from the Universities of Tennessee and Mississippi.

Program
As a member of the Department of Pharmacy Services, the resident will learn to provide a wide range of advanced clinical services including patient-specific pharmacotherapy, clinical consultation (including pharmaco-kinetics), and provision of drug information to patients and health care professionals. The program provides structured opportunities for independent learning through various rotations.

Specific interests and needs of the resident are used in developing the individual program.  The schedule is flexible, with core experiences provided in patient care with rotations available in Internal Medicine, Critical Care/Nutrition Support, Cardiology and numerous additional experiences.  During each experience, the resident will be expected to be an active participant in the provision of pharmaceutical care.

The resident will actively participate in medication use management through the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other focused groups, and complete an original project that contributes to the advancement of pharmaceutical care.  There are extensive opportunities for didactic teaching & precepting of students.
